Our Elmer’s in the Parkrose neighborhood in Portland is looking for a full time Assistant Manager to help us fulfil our mission of Delighting our Guests.
The Assistant Manager ensures that every Guest is delighted by directing the efforts of FOH support team, servers, bartenders, and BOH employees. The Assistant Manager assists the General Manager in providing leadership and supervision of restaurant operations to achieve Guest satisfaction, employee development, and meet or exceed budgeted sales and profit plans. Responsibilities include hourly and management staffing and training, Guest service, food preparation, expense control, facility maintenance, and overall operational excellence. The Assistant Manager balances administrative duties with hands-on operational work to support the need of the restaurant’s volume.
Working Conditions:
- Occasional travel (local and out of town) for meetings and trainings
- Must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for periods of up to ten hours in length.
- Varying schedule to include morning, evenings, weekends, weekdays, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates.
- A good sense of balance is needed, as is the ability to reach, bend, kneel, and lift and carry trays of up to 40 pounds to the table.
- Some exposure to chemicals used for cleaning
- Subject to wet floors, temperature extremes, and loud noises.
- Must be able to wipe down table tops, table legs, pick debris off of the floor, and wipe down booth seats and chairs in all areas of the restaurant.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language of the work location and of the Guests who typically visit the work location.
- Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations and complete computer data entry.
- Must have a valid ServSafe Manager Certificate (can be obtained after employment begins)
- Must have a valid Alcohol Server Permit

- Must have positive interpersonal skills and be able to communicate with high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy, both with team members, managers, and Guests.
- Must possess strong analytical/decision-making skills
- Must have motivation and leadership skills.
- Ability to train, coach, and delegate to team members
- Must be able to pass both server and cook tests and show hands-on proficiency in all positions.
- Must be able to meet the shift’s needs of fluctuating business demands.
- Requires knowledge of the sequence of service and dining room procedures.
- Must be Guest sensitive and possess a sense of timing so Guests are seated promptly.
- Must make quality decisions relying on experience and good judgement
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment
Essential Functions:
- Ensures that Elmer’s standards and proper steps of service are met through all Guest interactions.
- Interacts positively with Guests to ensure satisfaction. Resolves guest complaints immediately.
- Moves through the restaurant and kitchen areas to visually monitor and take action to ensure food quality and service standards are met.
- Performs and documents ambiance checks and line checks. Verifies temperatures, judges appearance and taste of products, and checks preparation methods to determine quality. Gives guidance toward improvement and makes necessary adjustments for consistency.
- Assists the General Manager in managing human resources, including staffing, training, promoting, and firing decisions at all restaurant positions.
- Resolves team member relations issues and complies with all applicable employment laws. Develops core operations skills and self-sufficiency of team members to function with limited supervision.
- Ensures that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality and proper presentation, within ticket time standards.
- Is able to assist line cooks when necessary. Ensures that cooking skills and menu knowledge are kept current.
- Maintains financial controls, inventory management, and labor requirements based on sales volume in order to maximize sales and profit potential.
- Models and teaches a respectful work environment. Reports any issues or complaints of harassment or discrimination immediately to the General Manager, Regional Manager, and the Director of Human Resources.
- Maintains the cleanliness and condition of the restaurant building and equipment to company standards for the efficiency of operations and the safety of team members and Guests.
- Motivates others to take action.
- Accommodates any special needs of Guests (i.e. boosters, high chairs, disabilities, etc.)
- Assigns side work and extra projects to team members.
