Job Description for Go-Kart Mechanic (Level 2)

Are you an experienced mechanic with a knack for troubleshooting and repairs? Join our team as a Level 2 Go-Kart Mechanic and help maintain the performance and safety of our go-karts. This position is ideal for someone with a solid mechanical background looking to further their skills in a dynamic environment.


Responsibilities for Go-Kart Mechanic (Level 2)

  • Go-Kart Fleet Management: Support fleet management program to regularly inspect, clean, maintain, service, and repair go-karts to ensure optimal performance and safety. Complete repair logs and daily checklists. Perform regular checks at each track for “quick fixes” to minimize downtime and alert management of significant issues.
  • Track and Pit Maintenance: Regularly inspect tracks and pits for any safety or operational issues; assist team to complete maintenance or repairs, as needed.
  • Engine Maintenance: Perform regular and preventative maintenance on all engines, including replace and maintain spark plugs; clean and replace air filters; check, fill, and change oil; check and maintain drive and fuel systems. Complete minor repairs on custom Speedway karts.
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct routine inspections to identify and address safety issues with all karts, tracks and pits including inspection of brakes, steering, seat belts, kart control system, track rails, and rider seat and safety padding.
  • Tires: Inspect for wear and remove, mount and replace tires, as needed.
  • Safety Compliance: Apply and update safety stickers, ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Park Opening/Start-up: Assist with daily go-kart inspections and startup procedures, including driving karts for safety inspection and pulling cords to start engines.
  • Clutch and Axle Repairs: Maintain and repair clutches and axles to ensure smooth operation and stability.
  • Brake System Oversight: Inspect and repair brake systems to ensure proper functioning and safety.
  • Engine Diagnostics: Assist with engine diagnostics to identify and resolve performance issues.
  • Mechanical Inspections: Conduct detailed inspections of go-karts to identify necessary repairs or maintenance.
  • Speedway Kart Repairs: Perform minor repairs on custom Speedway karts (GY6 engines, clutches, transmissions, electric accessories, 4-wheel disc brakes, etc.).
  • Seasonal Assistance: During the off-season, assist with track and ride operations as needed, following all guest service and safety requirements.
  • Park Projects: Support management with various park projects as requested.
  • Shop Organization: Keep maintenance shops, mechanical spaces, and back areas clean and organized.
  • Inventory Management: Help manage inventory and notify management when parts are running low.
  • Safety Standards: Adhere to OSHA, local health and safety codes, legal regulations, and company policies and procedures.
  • Equipment Care: Proper use and care of company equipment and facilities.

  • Proven Experience: Demonstrated experience in mechanical repairs and maintenance.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding (and proficient in the repair and maintenance) of mechanical systems, including small combustion engines, clutch systems, drive trains, axles, tire removal and mounting, and brake systems; ability to diagnose and troubleshoot engine issues; strong understanding of tools and methods.
  • Learning and Adaptability: Ability and willingness to learn from senior mechanics, grow in technical skills, and learn track/ride attendant duties.
  • Vision Requirements: Color and peripheral vision, close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
  • Detail-Oriented: Strong commitment to safety, quality and attention to detail and to maintaining a safe and highly productive work environment.

  • Flexible Schedule: Multiple shifts available, including morning, day, evening, weekend and holidays (except for Christmas Day, Easter Sunday and Thanksgiving Day when park is closed)
  • Special Skills: Detail-oriented; Strong commitment to safety, work quality and maintaining a safe, efficient and highly productive work environment; Ability to support inventory management system; Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks; and positive customer service and communication skills. Must be at least 18 years old.


Physical Demands & Working Conditions for Go-Kart Mechanic (Level 2)

  • Physical Activity: Standing or sitting for long periods, walking, using hands and fingers, handling objects, reaching, bending, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, talking, and hearing.
  • Lifting Requirements: Regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds.
  • Track Attendant Duties: Push/pull go-karts with guests, including on inclines.
  • Environmental Exposure: Moderate to high noise levels, various weather conditions (including outdoor heat in the summer and cold in the winter), dust, and particles. Exposure to gasoline, diesel, and other automotive fluids; Exposure to various chemicals used in engine repair and maintenance, including solvents and cleaning agents.
  • General Workshop Environment: Work in a well-ventilated garage or workshop environment, and working in confined spaces.
  • PPE: Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and masks when necessary.
  • Tool Use: Strength, coordination, and dexterity to use tools for maintenance, towing, and equipment operation.
