Position: Prep Chef / Kitchen Worker (Full and Part Time positions available_
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Prep Chef/Kitchen Worker to join our team at the B&M Catering Company. The ideal candidate will assist in the preparation of high-quality meals for our clients, including charter schools, weddings, corporate events, and private parties. This role is crucial in ensuring our kitchen runs efficiently and that our clients receive delicious and healthy meals. This position is at our commercial commissary in Pawtucket, RI. There may be opportunities to work at off-site events. This is a fast-paced commercial kitchen that delivers thousands of meals each day.
Responsibilities:
Food Preparation:
- Assist in the preparation of ingredients, including washing, peeling, cutting, and portioning fruits, vegetables, and proteins.
- Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes.
- Prepare sauces, dressings, and other food items as directed by the Head Chef.
Cooking and Assembly:
- Cook or reheat food items under the supervision of senior kitchen staff.
- Assemble meal components following specific instructions and portion control standards.
Maintaining Kitchen Hygiene:
- Clean and sanitize workstations, kitchen equipment, and utensils according to health and safety regulations.
- Dispose of trash and kitchen waste appropriately.
- Ensure food is stored and handled safely to prevent contamination.
Inventory and Stock Management:
- Monitor ingredient levels and communicate shortages to the kitchen manager.
- Assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
Support Kitchen Operations:
- Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure meals are prepared and packaged on time.
- Assist in packing and organizing meals for delivery, ensuring accuracy and presentation standards.
- Support with any additional tasks as required by the kitchen management.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of basic kitchen procedures and food preparation is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a high-temperature environment.
- Capable of lifting heavy items (up to 50 pounds) when necessary.
- Food Handler’s Certificate or willingness to obtain one (at company expense) within three months of employment.
