Canine Training at NVA is a dynamic and rapidly growing program. We are seeking a team player who is self-motivated, able to take direction well, and possesses excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, significant experience with dogs, an understanding of dog behavior, and knowledge of reward-based training methods.

Responsibilities:
- Treat each guest with respect and dignity.
- Conduct daily training with assigned dogs.
- Develop and execute training plans tailored to meet individual client needs and goals.
- Meet with clients upon arrival and departure to discuss training expectations and progress.
- Provide enrichment activities for training dogs.
- Document and thoroughly explain the dog's behavior and training status after each session.
- Lead group classes and follow a preset curriculum.
- Conduct private lessons as needed.
- Follow all NVA policies, procedures, and training SOPs.
- Maintain the highest standards of education in dog training.
- Collaborate with other departments regarding the health and behavior of board and train dogs.
- Maintain a clean and organized training space, ensuring common areas are disinfected after use.
Qualifications:
- A passion for animals and animal care, especially dogs.
- Understanding of Operant and Classical
- 1-2 years of experience in training animals or an equivalent education.
- Knowledge of dogs, dog behavior, and individual breed characteristics.
- Physical ability to handle dogs of all sizes and lift up to 40 lbs.
- Team player willing to assist other departments when necessary.
- Positive, cheerful attitude with strong attention to detail.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule.
- Ability to take direction and work independently
- Comfortable working in varying environments, including outdoors and with potential distractions.
- Ability to handle being in close contact with bodily fluids and getting dirty.
- Highly preferred CCPDT certification or willingness to obtain certification within one year.
Travel Requirements:
This position requires travel to multiple resort locations, with the expectation that the trainer will potentially spend each day at a different site. Multi-site travel is a key requirement and expectation of the role.
Reports To:
The Multi-Site Professional Dog Trainer reports directly to the Resort Manage and General Manager at each site they are at each day. The Home Site General Manager and Resort Manager check in weekly with the trainer following the Professional Canine Trainer Communication Guide and monitor overall performance.
Classification:
Hourly pay plus commission and tips.
