The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include following the plan of care, providing treatments, and working collaboratively with the members of the team to help meet positive patient care outcomes.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Furnishes services in accordance with agency policies
  • Prepares clinical and progress notes
  • Prepares equipment and materials for treatments observing aseptic techniques as required
  • Assists the patient, parent, family in learning appropriate self-care techniques as required
  • Provides services within agency service area as scheduled
  • Informs the Pediatric RN Supervisor of changes in the patient’s condition, immediately
  • Counsels the patient, parent in meeting nursing and related needs
  • Participates in in-service programs
  • Receives orders from physician or his representative according to policy
  • Orientation of co-workers
  • Other assigned duties as desired by the DCS and Director of Pediatric Operations

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Graduate of an accredited vocational nursing program.
  • Currently licensed as a licensed vocational nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Complies with accepted professional standards and practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate assessment and skills in caring for a pediatric client for Pediatric RN Supervisor.
  • Knowledge or experience with gastric button feeding and care preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge or experience with ventilators, tracheostomy and care preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication, and organization skills.
  • Possesses and maintains current CPR certification.
  • In home training available.
