Director of Nursing

Job Summary:

The Supervising Nurse, in alignment with the guidelines and regulations set forth by the Board of Directors, and working under the direct guidance of the Administrator, participates in the organization, coordination, leadership, oversight, and assessment of home health services. Their responsibilities include collaborating and liaising with relevant parent and affiliate departments and committees, formulating policies and recommendations while seeking input from service personnel, and contributing professional insights to interconnected administrative systems.

In addition, they oversee and manage the activities of both professional and support staff engaged in delivery client care services. They also undertake marketing responsibilities, cultivate positive public relations for the company, engage in consultations and strategic planning with healthcare facilities concerning staffing requirements, and effectively communicate the principles of high-quality client care to the wider community.


The Supervising Nurse also translates service necessities to the Administrator and functions as a conduit between client services and administrative functions.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the nursing staff and overall clinical operations of the home health agency, setting goals, directing nurses, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
  • Participates, with the administrator and Executive Director, in the formulation of a business plan, i.e., strategic goals, resource allocation plan(s), and a yearly budget.
  • Works with the Administrator to support administrative tasks and ensure the agency complies with regulations.
  • Establishes care standards and key performance indicators (KPIs) for clinical staff
  • Collaborates with the Administrator and HR to recruit and onboard clinical operations staff.
  • Keeps program personnel up to date with state-of-the-art clinical information and practices staff development including orientation, in-service education, and continuing education.
  • Oversees the implementation and evaluation of client care services inclusive of regulatory licensure and certification criteria and accreditation standards.
  • Acts as liaison with Staff Development for program areas
  • Collaborates in the development of an effective and efficient client care documentation system including statistical compilation and analysis relative to cost and staff service delivery.
  • Keeps staff informed of agency developments, needs, etc. and encourages their participation in problem-solving at the organization and community levels.
  • Assists in the evaluation of community needs and plans programs and services to meet identified needs.
  • Oversees all CQI and utilization review activities
  • Coordinates with continuous quality Improvement Committee the timely implementation of corrective action plans and controls
  • Assists in agency evaluation activities.
  • Participates in selective conferences and workshops to promote knowledge in community health trends, efficiency in job performance, and overall professional growth.
  • Serves on and periodically reviews policies relevant to patient care with the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee.
  • Promotes staff development by:
  • a.    Utilizing capabilities of nursing and paraprofessional personnel in the development of orientation and staff education programs.
  • b.    Recognizing leadership potential and offering opportunities for leadership training and development.
  • c.     Encouraging and assisting personnel to continue self-improvement through formal education, educations meetings, and active participation in professional and related organizations.
  • Participates in state and national organizations, meetings, seminars, workshops, and activities relating to the health professions and health care services, when appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Administrator

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be able to travel to the Home Health main office located at 4005 Technology Dr. Suite 1105 Angleton, Texas 77515
  • Extensive background of home health care services and regulations.
  • The ability to demonstrate self-confidence and a positive attitude toward self and others.

Preferred Skills/Abilities:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English

Required Education and Experience:

  • Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s degree
  • In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, a minimum of 2 years of health care experience

Work Environment:

  • BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS EXPOSURE LEVEL: 1 (HIGH)
  • Employees work in an office environment sometimes with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and sometimes travel to patients’ homes where they may have direct exposure to hazardous substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
  • Employees will have to travel to a variety of patient homes and perform in conditions that vary greatly depending upon the client’s home environment. Some homes will be clean, neat, and maintained at a comfortable temperature. Other homes may be cluttered, dirty, with an uncomfortable temperature.
