Job Summary:
The Lead Dental Assistant provides leadership by supervising all dental assistants and manages the schedule and workflow in the back office. The Lead will assist the dentist in serving patients to ensure exemplar customer service. Additional dental assisting responsibilities will include: The Lead will work towards building and coaching a strong clinical support staff, developing leadership with other team members that will support and provide a high level of patient care and excellent patient experience while operating in a team-base environment and supporting an efficient schedule with the dentists. Additional dental assisting responsibilities will include:
Preparing the work area and equipment for exams or procedures, as well as administrative duties like obtaining dental records, ordering dental supplies and equipment needed. To oversee, assist, train, and coach new RDA and established to provide the utmost highest quality of customer service care and develop front office teams capable of providing best in class patient care. The position will also schedule appointments and make post-operative phone calls to patients. The Lead should have superb organizational skills, excellent multitasking, interpersonal and communications skills and help with the development of the dental assistants. The position should control the back office and demonstrate ownership of the work performed.
The Lead RDA will train and develop team members how to achieve daily productivity goals by effectively managing patient scheduling, doctor, and clinical staff productivity, reviewing schedules daily to see any missed areas to add and increase productivity opportunities. The Lead will also develop and collaborate with Associate Director, Dental Supervisor and Operations Director of Dental to learn how to increase and stimulate new patient growth by supporting sales, marketing, and promotional programs; as well as coach their performance and development including but not limited to performance feedback, appraisals, and corrective actions by communicating with the Dental Supervisor, Associate Director and Operations Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Efficiently work with dentists and dental hygienists during any procedures or examinations, performs all normal dental assistant duties and ensure efficient patient flow according to the schedule demands and walk ins by guiding the assistants and Doctors throughout the scheduled day
- Should also include administrative duties such as ordering dental supplies, handling billing and budget for supplies. Answering/making phone calls for post-operative patients, setting up appointments for crown seats and other dental visits, and ensuring that all lab cases are ready and pulled for the following day on the schedule
- Ensures and audits all treatment information is entered after every visit and patient records include current dental histories, medical histories and clinical notes before all assistants leave at the end of the day
- Assists in the efficient transition of new Doctors and/or dental assistants to ensure better acclamation to the office
- Ensures the back office is running smoothly, that proper hand-offs are given creating urgency to patients for treatment needs and ultimately create an excellent patient experience
- Lead assistant is to be responsible for the maintenance of emergency kits, first aid supplies and ensure these are always stocked and up to date. As well as follow maintenance schedule for autoclaves, instrument ultrasonic and ensure that MSDS sheets are up to date and communicating with Dental Supervisor
- Should be able to identify, report and follow up as necessary on any maintenance issues in the office including dental equipment, hand pieces, etc and communicate with Dental Supervisor
- Ensures that the clinical staff is following OSHA regulations and safety requirements and compliant with HIPPA guidelines and take corrective action with the support of Associate Director, Dental Supervisor and/or Operations Director of Dental if necessary
- The Lead dental assistant should lead by example and look to build efficiency in regular patient flow
- Support Whole Person Care and the integrated model of care within the department and all service lines. Promote and advocate patient education in community outreach events and any outside functions with CHN

Required Education and Experience:
- Completion of accredited course in dental assisting
- Registered Dental Assistant licensure
- Current CPR (BLS) required
- Current Radiology Certification
- Experience using multi-line telephone systems
