Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant Site Lead has advanced Medical Assistant skills and is proficient in maintaining a positive patient experience by consistently exceeding expectations in customer service and patient care. The Medical Assistant III will function as a member of a Patient Centered Medical Home including clinical tasks and administrative skills.
The ideal candidate will have Women’s Health, Pediatric and/or Chronic care experience in an outpatient or clinic setting. The Medical Assistant is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of all patients.
Great and prepare patients for the health care provider. Accurately performs preliminary physical tests such as: blood pressure, blood glucose, height, weight, temperature, pulse, and respirations as directed by established clinical protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adhere to standard of care, processes, and protocols per type of patient visit
- Perform all vitals on every patient at every visit: height, weight, blood pressure, blood glucose, pulse, oxygen saturation, temperature, and respirations.
- Direct patient to a clean available room, follow proper intake order while using proper terminology and maintaining accurate and confidential records (vitals, Veradigm, dashboard, exam form, and screenings)
- Present patient and report back to provider
- Assess immunization records and refer for immunization as needed to meet Department of State Health Services guidelines, while using appropriate stock.
- Complete orders per standard of care or as documented in electronic health record by provider. (EKG, CLIA waived tests, lab draws, medication administration, vaccines, breathing treatment, fetal non-stress test, ear lavage, wound wrapping, FIT cards, referrals etc.)
- Gather needed supplies, equipment and set up as directed per standard of care or provider.
- Assist providers with examination, procedures and treatments as directed
- Create Referrals as ordered by provider
- Perform in-house testing using aseptic technique, document results and notify patient in timely manner: Flu, Strep, Mono, Covid, Cepheid, UPT, RSV
- Perform Hearing and vision Testing with documentation
- Send Medication refill request through Veradigm to provider
- Placement of RTO’s in chart as directed by provider
- Ability to navigate crisis protocol
- Assist with interpretation as needed including verbal and written.
- Inform site lead when inventory is low
- Participates in code response duties asassigned by site lead.
- Discharge patient with instructions as defined by provider (review discharge instructions with site lead as needed)
- Upon discharge schedule patient for follow up visit chronic, acute, or well and verify pharmacy.
- Assist patient in identifying barriers that may prevent them from completing their treatment.
- Ensure rooms are cleaned after discharge and are always properly stocked. Ensure all areas of clinic are clean and orderly
- Participates in identified performance improvement initiatives
- Perform cleaning, packing, and sterilization of instruments as directed. (May include using autoclave)
- Conducts daily walk through, Fridge/Freezer temperatures, cleanliness of clinics and EOC logs as assigned
- Performs comprehensive “patient education” as per standards of care or provider
- Communicates provider disposition to pt regarding labs, diagnostic testing and/or procedures within 72 hours
- Lead Team Huddle with assigned provider and MA
- Preceptor for new hire Medical Assistants
- Perform Prior Authorization in Veradigm (ePA), via Fax or Cover my meds
- Send medications in Veradigm per standard of care once signed off by site lead and/or clinical development manager.
- Manage patient flow to maintain cycle time within threshold while providing day-to-day supervision of MA team members
- Coordinate competency and on the job training for all MAs level 1-2
- Assuring all logs for EOC are kept up along with checking Emergency bag and equipment.
- Directs patient care as per SOC for walk-ins.
- Send Medication Refill per standards of care or provider approval.
- Complete outstanding lab report within 72 hours
- Complete Covid reconciliation and Vaccine logs daily
- Complete Veradigm medication request as received and reconciled within 24 hours
- Upload monthly provider huddles into SharePoint per site by 1st of the month
- Manage Vaccine Programs: VFC/ASN/Private
- Adhere to After Hours phone protocol rotation 1st – 15th or 16th – 31st
- Perform monthly Chart Audits as assigned to ensure accurate intake process and documentation is being followed
- Provide monthly Training to floor staff based on chart audits and Incident Reports
- Order supplies and floor stock medication by the 15th of each month
- Order vaccines by the 5th of each month
- Assist team in answering questions and physically step into patient care is additional support is needed
- Assist with investigations and resolving issues related to patient issues and other service-related concerns.
- Assist in coordinating staff meetings and lunch ordering
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to use Bi-directional interface with IMMTRAC to import vaccine records
- Ability to upload Medical Records in patient’s chart
- Ability to conduct Spirometry Testing as order by provider
- Ability to Perform Retinopathy exams
- Ability to effectively communicate to staff and patients
- Ability to perform EKGS, draw blood and administer injections
- Thorough knowledge and use of medical terminology and abbreviations
- Demonstrate the ability to take appropriate action in an emergency
- Maintain a positive, caring attitude towards patients and staff
- Good computer skills with ability to type 45+WPM
- Possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
- Bilingual in Spanish
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified or registered preferred but not required
- Successfully completed Medical Assistant course with diploma
- Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- 2-3 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant
