Bar Manager Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and skilled bar manager with remarkable skills, who will run our bar effectively and with attention to detail.
Our bar manager candidates are required to be in constant contact with the staff and customers. They need to be able to ensure their staff provides the highest quality customer services and monitor the overall financial performance of the bar.
The responsibilities of a bar manager are to greet customers, give intelligent recommendations and suggestions, assist the staff with anything they need and make sure the customers have a great dining experience. A bar manager candidate should be reliable, accommodating, courteous, and friendly to ensure that the customers are fully satisfied.
Bar Manager Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure positive guest service in all areas, respond to complaints, taking any and all appropriate actions to turn dissatisfied guests into return guests.
- Opening & Closing Duties (bar & restaurant)
- Conduct Bar Inventory-
- Stocking product & product organization
- Count and recording (weekly)
- Effectively and efficiently ordering product (weekly)
- Managing Relationships with vendors.
- Receiving orders
- Submit Month end valued inventory to GM, DOO and COO
- Develop and Supervise Bar staff including table service in the bar proper if applicable
- Create and distribute opening, prep and closing duties among bar staff and make sure all tasks are completed
- Effective communication with all staff- including explanation of all drink specials to the wait staff
- Schedule Bar Staff
- Sidework- ensure that it is completed each shift
- Recruit, hire and train new bar staff in collaboration with the GM
- Educate, promote and train all staff on the floor about all beer, wine and spirits in inventory. Help create a culture of excellence, authentic hospitality and excellence in all bar service.
- Insure that bartenders are certified in safe and responsible alcohol service
- Enforce health, safety and sanitation rules and standards
- Manage Prime Costs
- Know the cost of goods of all beverages
- Keep a waste log- and track waste
- Schedule labor appropriately
- Base purchases on strict inventory needs- and help GM track numbers for weekly Prime Cost Report
- Build revenue
- Bar sales- creative drinks, special programs for guests and staff, specials
- Consistent drink preparation
- Excellent Service Standards
- Increase beverage sales in other areas of the restaurant through training and communication
Bar Manager Requirements
- Five years equivalent experience in high volume, excellent bars or five years in Holly Hill Restaurant group in supporting roles
- TIPS Alcohol Certification or the equivalent
- Food Service Manager Certification
- Love of people and conversation
- Leadership skills
- Bartender Certification is a plus
- Beer and Wine Certifications is a plus
- Bourbon Certification is a plus
