We are seeking a talented and passionate Sommelier who will also take on the role of Floor Manager to ensure the seamless operation of our dining room and beverage service.
Position Overview
As the Sommelier & Floor Manager at Urban Grub, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the wine program, managing daily floor operations, and ensuring an exceptional guest experience. You will play a pivotal role in wine selection, service, and training, while also managing staff, handling guest relations, and ensuring smooth service on the floor.
Key Responsibilities
Sommelier Duties:
- Curate and maintain the wine list, ensuring a well-balanced selection of wines that complement our menu.
- Manage wine inventory, ordering, and receiving, keeping stock levels optimal.
- Educate staff on wine selections and pairing techniques through regular training sessions.
- Provide personalized wine recommendations to guests, offering pairings that enhance their dining experience.
- Lead wine tastings and special events to engage and educate guests.
Floor Manager Duties:
- Oversee the daily operations of the dining room, ensuring that service runs smoothly and efficiently.
- Coordinate with the kitchen and bar teams to maintain high-quality service standards.
- Manage and mentor front-of-house staff, assisting with scheduling, training, and team development.
- Address guest inquiries and resolve any issues with professionalism and care.
- Ensure that health, safety, and sanitation standards are upheld throughout the restaurant.
What We’re Looking For:
- At least 3-5 years of experience as a Sommelier, with a certification from an accredited wine organization (e.g., CMS, WSET) preferred.
- Prior experience in a managerial role within the restaurant industry.
- Strong knowledge of wines, wine service, and food pairings, with a passion for educating both staff and guests.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team in a fast-paced environment.
- A guest-first mindset, with exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
