Sandman Structural Engineers (SSE) is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Electrical Power team. In this position you are responsible for performing design work on assigned projects with other engineers and technicians to enable the success of our clients and our people.
Core Responsibilities
1. Design and Technical Work – 90%
Ensure clear and comprehensive designs that comply with current technical standards and regulations.
Key Activities:
- Performs technical design work under minimal supervision
- Prepares construction drawings and technical specifications
- Assists with structural engineering on projects of all sizes
- Produce thorough, timely, and accurate technical reports, correspondence, and calculations
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with customers
2. Project Management – 5%
optimize the efficiency, profitability, and on-time delivery of projects leading to high levels of client satisfaction.
Key Activities:
- Prepares for and participates in project meetings
- Works on multiple projects concurrently
3. Administration – 5%
Keep projects up to date in Ajera to ensure clients are invoiced accurately and SSE is paid in a timely manner.
Key Activities:
- Ensure documents and emails are filed appropriately
- Accurately record and submit time for each project
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
- Successful completion NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and attainment of Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
- 3-5 years’ experience
- Proficient use of the English language, both verbal and written, and adaptable to all audiences
- Physically able to conduct field inspections and testing as assigned
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record
Preferred:
- At least 2 years’ experience in Structural design engineering in the Electrical Power/Industrial industry
- Knowledgeable in engineering software, specifically Risa3D, PLS Pole, Allpile and/or MFAD
- General knowledge of engineering standards, including AISC Steel Construction Manual, National Electric Safety Code (NESC), ACI 318, and ASCE 113
- Involved in local outreach activities, university engineering clubs, etc.
Environmental Conditions:
Office environment; field environment; construction site environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, heat, cold, and inclement weather conditions when conducting field inspections and investigations.
