Shift Lead Job Description
SUMMARY
Shift Leads at 7 Brew Coffee are the ones with the most influence over the team daily. They are equipped by the manager, and a manager will make or break the team, but the daily shifts are run by the shift leads! As a shift lead, you accept a higher degree of responsibility to be always growing in both your strengths and your weaknesses. You must be always seeking ways to improve your abilities both as a barista and as a leader, while providing this to your team as well!
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Creates shift positions for shifts that you lead. The “shift text,” should follow the most recent instructions from your manager regarding the number of positions, focus points for the shift, etc.
- Ensures everyone has arrived and clocked in for their shift. Follows procedure for when baristas arrive late or have not shown up or communicated their eta.
- Runs the shift! 3 small words that mean a lot. To run a shift is to be responsible for the entire team's performance. This includes their adherence to both the 7 Brew Core Values and everything else that drives what we do!
- Tactfully confronts teammates who need a “Redirect,” to bring their performance back in line with expectations. This can be addressing poor attitudes, lackluster SOU, etc.
- Coaches teammates on how to improve all skill sets. This should happen daily!
- Leads huddles before and after shifts to set goals, set the vibe, explain procedures, and facilitate feedback and problem solving after shifts end.
- Ensures that weekly and shift chores are completed properly on shift.
- Takes responsibility of addressing any issues that come up on shift with customers, teammates, inventory, equipment, weather, etc.
- Frequently engages on the Shift Lead GroupMe to give feedback on shifts/brewistas, highlight growth areas, problem solving, and shoutout your shift lead team!
WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
- Have at least 6 months of prior shift-leading experience for another coffee shop or job in a similar industry
- Work a schedule that consistently allows for 4 shifts a week.
- Available for at least one morning, afternoon, and closing shift per week.
Shift Lead Training:
In addition to regular Barista training, potential Shift Leads will undergo a 4-week Shift- Lead - in - Training period, during which time they will be trained on all responsibilities that are expected of a shift lead. At the end of the 4 weeks, the trainee will take a Shift Lead test and pass with a score of at least 95%. The test will include written and verbal components.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must achieve “excellent,” in every category of the Shift Lead Training Assessment.
- Must be familiar and proficient with all our regular tasks on our in-stand checklists.
- Fully represents the 7 Brew Core values and provides an excellent example to the team of what those values look like.
- Be comfortable addressing any issues with your crew.
- Effectively lead and direct multiple personality types under pressure
- Work carefully and quickly with hot water and coffee, glass bottles, and dairy products
Must be able to:
- Work outside for prolonged periods, in all weather conditions
- Lift up to 50lbs
- Stand comfortably for hours at a time
- Frequently quickly run in and around the stand as needed
- Stand, sit, bend, kneel, twist, climb ladder and squat as necessary to stock and clean in the stand
- Safely walk in-between and around cars in the drive thru line
- Safely use a utility knife
