PLEASE NOTE: This is a seasonal position for the month of January 2025, with some positions starting in late December. Individuals in this role will be required to work every day January 5th-January 26th, up to 12 hours per day. Additional work may be available the week following Stock Show, January 27th-January 31st.
Overview
In this position, you’ll play a vital role in supporting our livestock exhibitors by managing the feed and bedding supplies on-site. You will oversee the inventory levels of hay, straw, and shavings, including coordinating orders and deliveries to maintain consistent stock. This position is also responsible for coordinating the timely delivery of feed and bedding to exhibitor pens to ensure each order is received accurately and on-time. This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys hands-on, active work and has a knack for logistics and organization.
The ideal candidate is a team-oriented, service-minded individual with a strong attention to detail and organizational skills. This individual has experience working with livestock, as well as in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should be comfortable tracking inventory and coordinating logistics, while also being adaptable and positive under pressure.
Reports to: Yards Manager, Hill Manager
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service to all livestock exhibitors, addressing questions and ensuring a smooth experience.
- Track and manage inventory of hay, straw, and shavings; coordinate orders and deliveries as needed to maintain sufficient stock.
- Schedule delivery of feed and bedding to exhibitor pens after receiving orders; ensure accurate and timely deliveries.
- Assist with checking in livestock upon arrival.
- Assist with the relocation of livestock to designated areas as needed.
- Safely operate equipment (tractors, golf carts, skid steers) to transport exhibitor tack and deliver feed and bedding across the grounds.
- Maintain a clean and organized exhibitor area, including removing trash, shavings, and other debris as needed.
- Work collaboratively with other team members to respond to requests and resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure all activities comply with event policies and safety standards.

Desired Experience, Skills, & Abilities
- Previous experience working with and around livestock is required.
- Prior experience overseeing inventory and coordinating deliveries is strongly preferred.
- Candidates must be available for early mornings, late nights, and weekends throughout the 16 days of Stock Show (January 11th-January 26th), with shifts up to 12 hours per day.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be comfortable operating or willing to learn to operate equipment with a valid driver’s license and clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Fluent in English with the ability to follow verbal and written directions.
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team, with a strong commitment to safety.
Working Conditions
The National Western Complex is a multi-purpose indoor and outdoor commercial and agricultural complex where dusty conditions and animals may exist. While performing the duties of this job, work is performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind, and rain, on varied surfaces. Candidates should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with large crowds.
Compensation & Benefits
- This is a seasonal, hourly position with a pay rate of $19.00/hour.
- Paid sick time offered at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
- Shift differentials offered – earn more for working nights!
