Teen Leader - YMCA Camp Ocoee - Summer 2025

Are you passionate about helping others grow to be Camp Counselors? Do you thrive in an outdoor environment and have 1-2 years of experience as a residential camper, counselor in training, and/or camp counselor? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you! Join our team as a Teen Leader at YMCA Camp Ocoee for summer 2025 (full time/seasonal)! Camp Dates: May 26, 2024 - July 26, 2025.


As a Teen Leader you will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Teen Leadership Academy (Counselor In Training and Ambassador Programs), assist and/or lead some out of camp trip programs, and help plan and carry out evening and special camp programs.


Responsibilities:

  • Focus on safety and fun for all
  • Plan, schedule and supervise specific skills to be learned in the Counselor-In-Training (CIT) and Ambassador Programs
  • Evaluate participants
  • Advise staff in guidance of CITs and Ambassadors in cabin and activity areas
  • Help solve camper issues
  • Demonstrate leadership with your involvement in other camp activities and events
  • Perform first aid or provide care for injuries as needed
  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 20 years of age or older
  • High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred
  • 1-2 years as a camper, counselor in training, and/or camp counselor
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Proven experience working with children
  • Familiarity with camping and various outdoor activities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Leadership, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • A good understanding of risk management and safety
  • Positive, energetic, reliable, self-motivated, and patient attitude

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including hiking, running, crouching, and carrying children
  • Walking up to 5 miles per day, stooping, standing, hearing, seeing, and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings and varying weather conditions and temperatures

Training:

  • Certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, and O2 (provided by Y upon hire)
  • Y Camp training required before camp sessions, including online safety courses (campers arrive June 1)
  • New Employee Orientation required within one week of hire
