Position Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse coordinates and provides nursing care for residents and supervises and guides clinical staff members.
The LPN’s scope of work may be modified by state specific rules under the Nurse Practice Act. As a supervisor, the LPN has the authority, in the interest of the employer to assign, reward,
or discipline other employees, or the responsibility to direct them or to adjust their grievances, or effectively recommend such action, the exercise of which is not merely routine or clerical, and are therefore expected to exercise that authority through the use of independent judgment in carrying out such duties.
In addition to the essential functions outlined herein, this position is considered to be a direct resident care role and therefore the incumbent shall meet and fulfill all applicable requirements as outlined in Arizona Administrative Code Title 9, Article 4: Nursing Care Institutions.
Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of an accredited LPN/LVN school of nursing or possess a BSN degree.
Must hold a valid LPN/LVN license in the state of employment.
Must have a valid CPR certification.
One year of experience in the nursing field is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Observes, reports and documents/charting on patient conditions
- Administers medications in accordance with physician orders
- Takes and records temperatures, respiration and pulse
- Sets up treatment trays, prepares instruments and/or other equipment, as needed for treatments
- Maintains working knowledge of assigned patient’s conditions at all times
- Reviews reports from previous shifts to determine changes in status of residents and assigns various duties to C.N.A.’s or other nursing personnel
- Turns over accurate records and ensures oncoming shift nurses are updated
- Responsible for notifying Director of Nursing Services (DNS) and/or Administrator of changes in patient condition or other job-related problems
- 12 hours of in-services must be maintained annually
