Gunsmith Job Description
Gunsmiths are service workers who repair and modify firearms to meet their customers’ specifications. They use their specialized knowledge to bring old guns to life, repair guns that have been broken, and create customized guns that meet a customer’s unique style and functionality preferences. To achieve this, a gunsmith will need to have many different skills. They need to be very familiar with firearms, to start. More specifically, they need to know all of the various pieces that go into creating a complete gun and how to put all of them together to ensure that a gun works properly. Gunsmiths may attach new sights to a weapon, new grips, and new recoil pads, among other things. They use tools like grinders, planers, and millers to do all of these things.
Candidates who wish to become gunsmiths don’t need a college degree. But they will benefit from completing an apprenticeship or an accredited gunsmith training program.
